Vocational Education and Training in Agriculture

VOCATIONAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING IN AGRICULTURE

The FAS project has worked to design and develop the first vocational training curriculum in agriculture for the Turkish Cypriot community. This training is designed in line with EU guidelines for adult learning and will lead to the acquisition of a Certificate of Achievement by participants that complete successfully the course.

Training is voluntary and courses are short but designed to bring the latest information about new technology, research and innovation across the main production sectors of northern part of Cyprus.

Eight different courses are being launched covering:

  1. Introduction to Farm Management
  2. Advanced Beekeeping
  3. Citrus Production
  4. Olive Production
  5. Sheep and Goat Herd Management
  6. Dairy Cattle
  7. Organic Farming for Beginners
  8. Advanced Organic Farming

The following section provides you with more detailed information about every course. Note that Farm Management is compulsory. You may attend in as many courses you wish and training is free of charge.

Farm Management Module

This course provides farmers with the basic knowledge on how to efficiently manage their farms. Training will include aspects of bookkeeping, basic accounting practices, farm investments, marketing, producer groups and cooperatives as well as good agricultural practices and standards.

Dairy Cattle Herd Management Module (Upcoming Training)

This course is structured around 5 units of training that last 32hours. Training will provide theoretical and practical knowledge, hands-on experience on animal breeding, animal nutrition and fodder crops, animal health care, animal husbandry systems and welfare, milking hygiene requirements and good practices.

Sheep and Goat Herd Management Module (Upcoming Training)

This course is structured around 6 units of training that last 36hours. Training will provide theoretical and practical knowledge, hands-on experience on animal breeding, animal nutrition and fodder crops, animal health care, animal husbandry systems and welfare, milking hygiene requirements and good practices as well as milk processing and cheese making food safety requirements.
